Intro to Reupholstery Workshop at Makewith PDX
Learn how to turn old furniture from drab to fab in this hands-on introduction to reupholstery. In this workshop, participants will learn basic techniques for reupholstering dining chairs, benches, stools, and other similar small items. We will discuss methods for sourcing salvage materials, mending, patching, and sewing. For those interested in reupholstering larger items in the future, we’ll talk a bit about more complex sewing techniques for recovering larger furniture.
For our hands-on practice, we’ll stick to the basics and recover dining chairs and benches, which we’ll be donating to a local furniture bank after the workshop. Each participant will learn how to effectively operate a steamer, staple gun, and a variety of hand tools. This workshop is suited to anyone who wants to keep stained items out of the dump, or give cool furniture finds a new life! No experience required.
